Geography

Cambodia is located in the south of Indochina Peninsula. It borders Vietnam in the east and southeast, Laos in the north, and Thailand in the west and northwest. The coastline is about 460km long. The territory is dominated by highlands, mountains and plains (highlands account for 54% of the land area and plains account for 46%). The east, north and west are mountains, the middle and southeast are alluvial plains of the Mekong River and its tributaries, and the southwest is facing the sea, which is a geomorphic feature surrounded by mountains and waters. The most important mountains in Cambodia are the Tangle Mountains in the north and the Gadamo Mountains in the west and southwest. The Tangle Mountains are in the north of Cambodia, with an average elevation of about 500 meters. 1/3d forests are distributed in this area. Jiadamomei Mountain is also called "Cardamom Mountain" because there is a ginger plant called "Jiadamomei", also called "Cardamom", on the mountain. There are many peaks with an average altitude of more than 1000 meters. The southeast and south stretch of Cardamom Mountain along the coastline is called Elephant Mountain, which is below 1000 meters above sea level.

Economics

Cambodia is a backward agricultural country and one of the least developed countries in the world. Agriculture is the first pillar industry of the national economy. In 2000, the agricultural output value was 1.086 billion US dollars, accounting for 33% of GDP. The agricultural population accounted for about 80% of the total population and 70% of the total labor population. At present, the proportion of landless rural population in China has increased from 3% 15 years ago to 15% now, and land disputes are increasing. The industrial foundation is weak. Affected by the long-term war, most factories have outdated machinery, lack of raw materials and backward technology. In 2000, the total industrial output value was 345 million US dollars, accounting for 10.5% of the GDP. The garment industry was the largest industry. In 1993, a free market economy was introduced, and economic privatization and trade liberalization were carried out. The economy has developed to a certain extent, and people's lives have improved. Cambodia has a tropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 24 ℃. It is divided into rain and drought. The rainfall is between 1400 and 5000 mm. Railway There are two railways in Cambodia: Phnom Penh - Pobe, which can lead to Bangkok; Phnom Penh Sihanouk City is the main artery of transportation, but it is in disrepair for a long time and its transportation capacity is very low. Inland waterway shipping is dominated by Mekong River and Tonle Sap Lake, and the main river ports are Phnom Penh, Kampong Cham and Kampong Qingyang. Aviation Cambodia has two international airports, Phnom Penh International Airport and Siem Reap Airport.

There are rich resources in forestry, fishery and fruit trees. There are more than 200 kinds of wood, rich in valuable tropical trees such as teak, iron wood, red sandalwood, ebony, white Mao, and a variety of bamboos. However, due to war and deforestation, forest resources are seriously damaged. Aquatic resources are also very rich. Cambodia has many fishery resources in rivers and lakes, which produce both freshwater fish and marine fish. It is rich in black grouper, black carp, eel, frog fish, red halibut, etc.

Language and customs

In Cambodia, women are generally married at the age of 15 or 16, and men are married at the age of 20, otherwise they will be despised by the secular world. The wedding is held in the women's home, usually for 3 days. The first day is the "Shed Day". The bride's family will build three sheds for the wedding guests, one of which is the bridegroom's shed. The next day is the "Zhengri". In the early morning, we will go to the women's home to hold the ancestor worship ceremony. The ceremony of "haircut" will be held in the afternoon. After the wedding banquet is the thread winding ceremony. The bride and groom sat cross on the floor, their hands folded, and their parents and relatives wrapped the thread around their wrists. The third day is "Hall Worship Day". An old man presided over the ceremony. First, the band played the "Salute Song", and then a singer sang the old song. Then the bride and groom sang together, and then everyone sang together. Finally, the host broke a betel nut and gave it to the elders of both sides. Everyone then sprinkled flowers on the new couple to bless the newlyweds.
